Set for release in Spring 2015 will Eugen Systems successor to the Act of War series, Act of Aggression make it into my list of best RTS games of all time?
Focus Home Interactive, the publisher behind the game, are keen to nail home the fact that it’s a ‘return to the golden era’ of RTS games with gameplay reminiscent to that of Command & Conquer: Generals. HALLELUJAH I say, I’ve been waiting far too long to hear a phrase like that!
Many fans of real time strategy games, myself included, have been unfortunate enough to see the steady decline of the classic base building mechanic that once stood so proud. It’s been far too long since I’ve seen my troop’s storm out of the freshly built barracks, have a tank roll off the assembly line of a war factory or build up that tech tree to construct a potential game changing mega-weapon.
With the majority of current RTS games focusing more on micro managing a group of units it will be fantastic having that feeling of building up an army once again.
With superweapons and anti-superweapons for each of the three factions there really doesn’t seem like much to dislike about the game. As we all know though you can never judge a game on looks and descriptions alone so let’s not get too carried away now.
The three factions mentioned include the US Army, a force of battle hardened veterans still wielding current gen technology. The Cartel, a shadowy organisation keyed up with cutting-edge prototypes and the Chimera, a UNO task-force with a plan for any given situation.
Featuring an in-game day and night cycle to top it off I think we can rest assured we’ll be in for some quality hours of gaming.
While you wait I suggest perfecting your hardened gruff military voice in time for the release of Act of Aggression on PC.
Gear up and let’s get going troops!
